Garlic & Parsley Cold Remedies

Many people are absolutely miserable during cold season. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot that can be done to cure a cold. Most doctors will advise their patients to let the cold run its course. There are tons of home remedies to alleviate the symptoms of a cold and boost the immune system. Not surprisingly, two of those remedies are things you might find in soup: garlic and parsley.
  1. Garlic

    • Garlic is excellent for fighting colds. Garlic is a very versatile food, aiding in digestion and reducing high blood pressure. It also improves blood circulation, cholesterol, bronchitis and intestinal infections.

Raw garlic is best. You can purchase garlic that has already been minced from the produce section of the grocery store. Add it to olive oil and toss in a salad or mix with mayo to spread on your sandwiches. If you don't like the strong taste of raw garlic, take garlic capsules, which you can purchase from health food stores. Always buy supplements locally, rather than ordering them online, to ensure high quality and potency.

Kyolic is a patented cold-pressed form of garlic that does not produce garlic breath. It also does not upset the stomach.

    Parsley

    • Parsley can help combat garlic breath. It's also good for fighting colds and is more than just a decorative sprig on the side of your plate. Parsley is packed with nutrients and is an excellent dietary source of calcium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin A and beta-carotene. Additionally, parsley contains supposed cancer-fighting agents and can detoxify and soothe the kidneys.

The nice thing about parsley is that it can be added to just about anything. Use it as a garnish or add it to sandwiches and salads.

    Garlic-Parsley Recipes

    • Garlic is used heavily in Middle Eastern cooking. It's one of the main ingredients in hummus. A garlic spread can be used to help combat a cold. Mix together ¾ cup of olive oil, 7 garlic cloves, 1 tbsp. onion powder and 2 tbsp. parsley together. Spread on bread and chips.

Pesto sauce is another tasty condiment to which you can add both garlic and parsley.
