Home Remedies for Allergies & Cold Symptoms

Colds and seasonal allergy symptoms can leave you feeling miserable. Over-the-counter medications have their place, but in some cases home remedies for allergies and cold symptoms can bring immediate relief and comfort from a scratchy, sore throat, watery eyes and stuffy nose.

There are countless home remedies for allergies and colds you can try to help you feel better on the road to recovery.
  1. Lemon

    • Lemon is one of the most common home remedies for allergies and colds. The vitamin C increases immunity and flushes away toxins. Squeeze one lemon into a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of honey to comfort a sore throat and decrease nasal congestion.

    Turmeric

    • Turmeric spice can really help with congestion and throat irritation. One home remedy involves mixing half a teaspoon of ground turmeric into a cup of warm milk. This mixture should be taken twice a day until the symptoms stop.

Another remedy involves burning dried turmeric powder and breathing in the vapors. This helps relieve nasal and chest congestion and loosens thick mucus.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water into a pan. Bring it to a boil, turn off the flame and lean over the pan to inhale the fumes. This helps with nasal and chest congestion.

    Chamomile

    • Chamomile is one of the most effective home remedies for allergies and colds. If you are suffering from puffy, watery and itching eyes, boil some chamomile tea and let it cool. Next, take some sterile cotton balls and soak them in the tea, and then put them on your eyes. The irritation will go away quickly.

If you have an irritated throat, drink the tea warm or cold with a teaspoon of honey.

    Honey

    • Eating local honey on a daily basis is an old remedy that can help build your immunity to pollen and other outdoor allergies because of the pollen used by the bees to create it.
