Am I Contagious If I Have Flu Symptoms?

The flu is a very common illness from which most people recover. Nevertheless, flu symptoms can make an individual miserable and can cause missed school or work. Some extreme strains of flu can even be dangerous.
  1. Symptoms

    • The most common symptom for the flu is a fever. Other symptoms are aches, chills, dizziness, headache, nausea and fatigue.

    Early Onset

    • Flu is very contagious and is spread through sneezing and coughing. Those who breath the same air that is exhaled from the infected will become infected if their immune system does not fight off the virus.

    Waning Symptoms

    • As the symptoms wane, the flu becomes less contagious. Avoiding physical contact with someone infected with the flu virus will usually prevent the flu from spreading.

    Reducing Contagiousness

    • Those infected with the flu should avoid close contact, cover their mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing, and wash their hands.

    Avoiding Flu

    • Keeping the immune system healthy with vitamins E and C can prevent the flu. However, the flu can also be prevented by washing your hands, keeping stress low and avoiding those who have the flu virus.
