Quick Remedy for a Spasmodic Cough

A spasmodic or convulsive cough can become a very painful and annoying problem. It can keep you from maximizing your daily output and can prevent you and your loved ones from getting a good night's sleep. There are, however, treatments available to help suppress the cough.
  1. Vinegar

    • Apple cider vinegar is a great way to get rid of a cough. The healing enzymes found within the vinegar soothe and heal your irritated and inflamed throat, which in turn will take care of your cough. The best way to apply this type of treatment is to mix a few tablespoons of the apple cider vinegar with a glass of water. Keep the mixture at bedside with you or in the refrigerator and take a sip whenever you feel the urge to cough.

    Ginger

    • Ginger is another great way to suppress a spasmodic cough. It comes in many different forms like whole ginger root, sliced ginger and powdered ginger. For this type of application, either whole ginger root or sliced ginger is the best to use. Take a slice of the ginger and place it into your mouth. Chew the ginger until your cough melts away. You can use this treatment whenever you feel the urge to cough. Another way to utilize ginger's healing capabilities is to mix some powdered ginger in with a glass of water. Drink the mixture slowly when the feeling of a cough is upon you.

    Garlic

    • Garlic cough syrup may not sound like the best sort of medicine, but it is quite effective at curing a bad cough. It tastes better than you would think too. To prepare properly, you need to chop up a handful of garlic cloves and place them into a mason jar. Completely cover the garlic with some honey and securely tighten the lid. Place the concoction in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. Take a tablespoon whenever you get the feeling of a cough and it should stop.
