Good Home Remedy for a Cough
A cough, although small in reflex, can become quite an annoying problem for both you and your loved ones. There are a multitude of home remedies available to cure an annoying cough, so before you go to see your physician, give one of these a try.-
Herbal Tea
-
Herbal tea has long been used as a cough remedy. The mix of the antioxidants in the hot water releases a healing factor that can subdue a dry, nagging cough. Black tea and chamomile have long been considered the best forms of herbal tea to help a cough and should be combined with 1 cup of steaming hot water, a few drops of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of honey. The acid in the lemon juice will help with the inflammation, while the honey will coat the throat and act as a lubricant.
Hard candy
-
Sucking on hard candies will also help subdue a cough. While sucking the candy, the mouth will continue to release more and more saliva. This mixture of saliva and candy will begin to make its way to your stomach, but on its way it will lubricate the throat, thus stopping the cough. Peppermint candies seem to work the best as the natural menthol is a decongestant.
Garlic
-
Garlic is one of nature's cure-alls. Garlic has long been used to battle things like the common cold, bronchitis, the flu and, of course, coughing. Mince a few cloves of garlic and place them into a bowl. Mix in a few tablespoons of honey and let that concoction marinate overnight. In the morning, take one tablespoon of the mixture and throughout the day, take it whenever the feeling of a cough is apparent. The honey will sooth the throat and will mix with the healing qualities found in the garlic.
Steam
-
Taking a very hot bath or shower will help a cough immensely. Many times a cough is caused by a lack of lubrication to the throat and air passage. The cough reflex is there to make sure any particles that block the air passages are loosened and either swallowed or dispelled back through the mouth. The steam from the bath or shower will ensure that your air passages remain well hydrated, thus no need for the cough.
