Pump a dime size amount of antibacterial soap into the palm of your hand. Use a brisk, back-and-forth motion for at least 20 seconds, then rinse with warm water. If you are in a public restroom, use either a paper towel or toilet paper to open the door so you do not reinfect your hand with potential viruses.

Use a hand sanitizer between hand washings and whenever you cannot wash hands. If you are unable to wash your hands with soap and water, hand sanitizer is the next best thing. It should contain at least 60 percent alcohol to be effective. Be sure to apply the sanitizer all over the hands, including palm, top of hand, between the fingers, and on the wrists.
