Oil of Oregano Medicinal Benefits

There are many natural remedies that can be found in your garden or cupboard. One of the most underused and under appreciated herbs that has excellent medicinal benefits is oregano.
  1. Colds and Flu

    • Oregano is used as an infusion, usually with tea, or as an herbal flavoring in various dishes. Due to its high antibacterial and antibiotic qualities oregano will often stop a cold or flu virus before it begins and will help the body to heal after the onset of a virus.

Fungal Infections and Bacterial Skin Infections

    • Traditionally, oregano oil is used in poultices and balms to treat bacterial skin infections by raising the body's immune system. Fungal infections are fought traditionally the same way, using the oregano oil in a balm to coat the infected area until the infection recedes.

    Sinus and Lung Infections

    • Because of its antibacterial qualities, oregano oil traditionally has been used to cure chest colds and sinus infections. A few drops of oregano oil dissolved in juice, preferably orange juice, and drunk will usually take effect within three to five days.

    Ease Toothache

    • If mixed with another oil, such as jojoba oil, essential oregano oil will provide antibiotic protection and also will ease the pain and suffering associated with a toothache.

    Aid Digestion

    • Because oregano oil stimulates the digestive system, more digestives juices will form when it is used. This action helps to regulate the digestive system and helps ease constipation.

    Regulate the Menstrual Cycle

    • Oregano oil, taken internally using the same methods of steeping in tea or mixing with juice or other natural oils, will assist in regulating the menstrual cycle as well as making the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome more comfortable.
