Herbal Remedies for the Common Cold
There are a plethora of over-the-counter remedies for the common cold; however, many people may want to opt for a more non-traditional method when treating a cold. Herbal remedies have been around for centuries--before the advent of NyQuil and other popular brands stocked drug store shelves. From garlic to ginseng to onions, there are several alternative concoctions to help ease the common cold.-
Onion Juice

Fight off the common cold by combining onion juice with garlic oil. In order to work, the remedy must be diluted with water, and then ingested several times throughout the day.
Turmeric Powder

Another effective home remedy for the common cold is combining turmeric powder with warm milk. Use at least 30 grams of warm milk, and ingest it in short periods. The combination of turmeric powder and warm milk should provide immediate relief.
Lemon Barley Water

Lemon barley water can be effective in battling the common cold and provide some comfort. Slice the lemon into two parts and place in a large glass with at least 2 tablespoons of barley. Leave it overnight, and then strain in the morning. It is important to drink the remedy immediately after straining while it is still fresh.
Garlic

Garlic has several antioxidant values, as well as help with the common cold. Raw garlic can be chopped up and eaten, or a few drops of garlic juice can be combined with a few drops of onion juice, then diluted in water.
Ginger

Ginger can help sufferers in several ways. First, ginger combined with tea and then boiled can provide instant relief. Second, ginger juice ingested with honey can soothe sore throats and help fight a cold at the same time.
Giseng

Regular use of ginseng will not only reduce symptoms of the common cold, but it was also help in the prevention of a cold occurring. Ginseng can be taken as a raw herb or as extract.
Echinacea

Echinacea, an immune system stimulant, helps to reduce common cold symptoms and shorten recovery time. Consume at least 2 ml of Echinacea juice several times daily. Alternately, whole dried root can be taken several times daily.
