What Is Mucinex Used for?

Mucinex is used to calm coughs caused by common respiratory tract infections. It provides relief from coughs associated with the common cold, bronchitis and sinusitis.

    • Mucinex is effective against coughs that produce congestion and mucus accumulation in the upper respiratory tract.

    Considerations

    • Mucinex is taken orally on a standard schedule of every 12 hours, under the supervision of a doctor. It's also recommended to ingest the medication whole, without crushing it first.

    Recommendation

    • It's recommended not to exceed 2400mg of Mucinex in a 24-hour period.

    Types

    • Mucinex is prescribed for adults and children 12 years old or older. It's not formulated for children under 12. Mucinex products for children are formulated for ages 4 and above.

    Warning

    • If Mucinex doesn't improve the cough within one week or other conditions develop-- such as a fever or rash--contact your doctor immediately.
