Herpes & Cold Flu Symptoms

Herpes, colds and influenza are all caused by different viruses. While many of the symptoms of the cold and flu are similar, symptoms of the herpes virus vary a lot. Cold and flu infections can occasionally cause an outbreak of cold sores (also known as fever blisters), which are the herpes virus.
  1. Flu Symptoms

    • Flu symptoms include high fevers (over 101 degrees F), dry coughs, body aches and chills, and a rapid onset of symptoms.

    Cold Symptoms

    • Cold symptoms include lower grade fevers (below 101 degrees F), phlegmy coughs, and sneezing and nasal discharge.

    Herpes Symptoms

    • Before the onset of a herpes blister, you may feel the spot to be tingly or numb. The blister will then begin to form, and it will stay for 3 to 4 days before beginning to fade.

    Antiviral Medication

    • Antiviral medications can help shorten the symptoms of the flu and herpes, as well as make them less severe.

    Anti-inflammatory Medication

    • Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug that can ease the pain and discomfort (and fever, if present) of herpes, flu and cold viruses.
