1
Purchase a neti pot. Neti pots look like miniature tea kettles and are found in your local pharmacy department. They are designed with an elongated spout in an effort to comfortably fit in your nostril.
-
2
Warm up some water. In a small pot over the stove, pour 1 cup of distilled water and 1 tablespoon of table salt. Stir until the salt is completely dissolved. Water should be heated until lukewarm. Pour the warmed solution into the neti pot.
-
3
Cleanse. Over a sink, tilt your head to a 45-degree angle. Gently insert the spout of the neti pot into the elevated nostril. Carefully pour a steady stream of solution into your nose for at least 10 seconds. Breathe through your mouth during the procedure.
-
4
Unclog the congestion. If your sinuses are clogged with mucus, it may take a few attempts before the solution makes its way through to the other nostril.
-
5
Blow your nose. To completely remove the loosened mucus, blow your nose after completing the sinus cleanse.
