Mix the Solution. To begin, Mix a half teaspoon of coarsely ground salt with eight ounces of lukewarm water in the neti pot. Hot water will burn you and cool water will be uncomfortable so pay attention to temperature.

Tilt the head. Tilt your head to the side and insert the neti pot’s spout gently into the raised nostril, sealing the pot and nostril.

Breathe and pour. Breathe through your mouth and slowly raise the pot to create a gentle steady flow of the solution that will wash out the lower nostril. If the solution drains at the mouth, lower your forehead.

Repeat the steps. At the end, clear the nasal passage by exhaling firmly. Then tilt your head the other way and repeat on that side.
