Instructions

    • 1

Boil 1 cup of horehound leaves in 1 cup water for about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.

    • 2

Strain the cooled mixture through a cheesecloth. Keep the liquid and discard the boiled leaves. Place the liquid in a clean pot.

    • 3

Add 2 cups sugar and 2 tbsp. honey or corn syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer. Constantly stir the mixture until the temperature reaches 300 degrees F or until the mixture reaches the hard-crack stage.

    • 4

Butter a cookie sheet. Pour the mixture on the sheet and allow to cool.

    • 5

After the mixture turns rock-hard, like peanut brittle, break it into small pieces. Keep your horehound lozenges in a sealed baggie or dish.
