How to make Horehound Lozenges
Horehound lozenges are for stopping a nagging cough. Whether your cough is from a cold or smoking, these lozenges will coat your throat, ease your coughing and soothe your throat after a harsh coughing attack. Horehound lozenges are easy to make, and they taste sweet because they include sugar and honey.Things You'll Need
- 1 cup horehound leaves
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tbsp. honey or corn syrup
- Cheesecloth

Boil 1 cup of horehound leaves in 1 cup water for about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.

Strain the cooled mixture through a cheesecloth. Keep the liquid and discard the boiled leaves. Place the liquid in a clean pot.

Add 2 cups sugar and 2 tbsp. honey or corn syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer. Constantly stir the mixture until the temperature reaches 300 degrees F or until the mixture reaches the hard-crack stage.

Butter a cookie sheet. Pour the mixture on the sheet and allow to cool.

After the mixture turns rock-hard, like peanut brittle, break it into small pieces. Keep your horehound lozenges in a sealed baggie or dish.
