How to Stop a Sneeze

It can be embarrassing to sneeze at the wrong time. This is especially true when you tend to sneeze multiple times in one bout or you don't have tissues handy to clean up afterwards. Follow these steps to learn how to stop a sneeze.

Instructions

    • 1

Push your tongue against the roof of your mouth directly behind your front teeth. Use the muscles in your tongue to push as hard as you can until you stop feeling the urge to sneeze.

    • 2

Tickle the roof of your mouth using the tip of your tongue. Keep doing this until you stop feeling the need to sneeze.

    • 3

Pinch the area between your thumb and pointer finger to stop a sneeze. Spread the thumb and pointer finger apart on one hand and use the thumb and pointer finger of your other hand to pinch the flap in between.

    • 4

Concentrate on wiggling your earlobe to stop a sneeze. As soon as you feel the sneeze coming on, focus all of your attention on making your earlobe move up and down. The urge to sneeze will subside.

    • 5

Squeeze the bridge of your nose when you get the urge to sneeze. Use your thumb and pointer finger to pinch the bridge of your nose and push up towards your eyes.

    • 6

Focus on something absurd such as fruits or vegetables. Imagine in your head what the object may look like including the shape, texture and color. Your urge to sneeze should go away when you focus intently on something else.
