Instructions

  1. Treat Laryngitis

    • 1

Check on any other symptoms you have besides laryngitis. High fever, chronic cough, or opaque mucus discharge may warrant a trip to the doctor.

    • 2

Stop talking, singing, smoking or breathing second-hand smoke. Even if your symptoms improve, continue to rest your voice as much as possible, for as long as a week if you can.

    • 3

Say no to late nights and extra responsibility for a while. Your body needs rest to heal.

    • 4

      Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

    • 5

Drink plenty of water. Soft drinks often have caffeine and other additives that can actually make your throat dryer.

    • 6

Gargle morning, noon and evening with a 1/2-tsp. of salt or 1 tsp. of vinegar in 6 ounces of warm water.

    • 7

Brew a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea and drink it slowly to ease soreness and throat tickle.

    • 8

Ask an herbal practitioner about using eucalyptus, licorice, goldenseal, barberry, Echinacea, saw palmetto and others to treat laryringitis.

    • 9

Consult your doctor about possible causes of chronic laryngitis, especially allergens or irritants to which you are exposed.
