Grants for Hearing Aids for Children

Hearing aids can improve the quality of life for children who have hearing loss or are hard of hearing. For parents, it can be challenging to rely on health insurance alone. Often the deductibles are costly. For this reason, there are a number of grants available to help offset the cost.

Medicaid

• If the family is low-income and the child is covered under Medicaid, the child can be issued a hearing aid at no cost. Even if the parents do not qualify as low-income, they can contact their local Social Security office to get information on the medically needy program.

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

• This act is to ensure that each child be afforded a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). If the hearing aid is recommended by their Individualized Education Program, a hearing aid will be supplied to the child at no cost.

Local Organization

• Parents can contact a local organization serving the hearing impaired community. The organization can provide resources for hearing aid grants.

National Organizations

• Organizations, such as Easter Seals and Help Kids Hear, are established groups that focus on assisting children with special needs.

Alexander Graham Bell Association

• The Alexander Graham Bell Association provides an intuitive listing of sources for financial aid for the hearing impaired.
