What did Deaf Smith do?

Erastus "Deaf" Smith (April 19, 1787–November 30, 1837) was an American frontiersman, soldier, and Texas Revolutionary hero. He is one of the most well-known figures of the Texas Revolution.

Smith was born in New York and lost his hearing at an early age. He moved to Texas in 1821 and quickly became a leader among the settlers. He was a skilled scout and fighter and played a key role in several important battles of the Texas Revolution, including the Battle of San Jacinto.
