What percent of people are deaf?

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that approximately 5% of the world's population, or 466 million people, had disabling hearing loss in 2018. Of these, 34 million are children. It's important to note that deafness refers to a profound inability to hear, where people are considered deaf with a hearing loss greater than 90 decibels (dB). However, hearing loss can also be categorized into several levels based on severity, including mild, moderate, severe, or profound.
