1
Stop thinking negatively. Recognize your negative thinking patterns. Once you take notice of your negative thoughts, you can begin to control them. Stop those negative feelings dead in their tracks and you'll be able to stop the cycle.

2
Focus on positive things. Make a list of all of the things you are thankful for. Hang that list in the kitchen or in your bedroom to serve as a daily reminder. For example, from the moment we wake up, there are positive things to consider --- some people did not wake up this morning, so write "waking up this morning" at the start of your list. Focus on the positive things in your life and you will see beauty everywhere.

Follow through. Remember that cooking class you always wanted to take or that trail you wanted to hike? Start something new and learn from it. The sense of accomplishment you'll feel when you're finished will overwhelm any sad feelings. Never stop learning.

4
Set goals for yourself. Visualize what you wish to accomplish. When you start thinking about achieving goals, your brain chemistry changes, which can actually help you battle feelings of sadness.
-
5
Sleep. It is important that you make rest a priority, so you can have the effective energy to overcome negative emotions.

6
Engage in an exercise routine that includes one hour of cardio. Physical activity boosts endorphins, which are the brain's natural mood boosters.
