What to Expect with Depression
Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain which makes it hard for your brain cells to communicate with each other, according to Family Doctor. Depression doesn't mean you are crazy, weak or lazy.-

You can feel hopeless, fatigued and have pains and aches that do not improve with treatment. You can lose interest in life or food, and sleep too much or too little.

Depression can be triggered by stressful events like unemployment, divorce or illness.
What to Expect

Before you seek help for depression, you can have negative thoughts about yourself. You may think about suicide or death. Or you feel worthless.
Time Frame

Seek medical treatment if you have symptoms for longer than two weeks. Your doctor will ask you questions about symptoms, family history or health problems. You may have to undergo a physical exam.
Treatment

Your depression will be treated with counseling, medication or both. Antidepressants can correct the chemical imbalance which triggered your depression. Psychotherapy can include eight to twenty visits with a therapist or psychiatrist to discuss your thoughts and feelings.
