1
Find out what is causing your depression. Sometimes the first step to recovery is to discover the root of the problem. While this can be difficult, it is important to know so that you can avoid it in the future.
-
2
Keep a journal of when you get depressed or have mood swings. Have a notebook and pen with you at all times to record these events. It may be a certain place, person or even time of day that is bothering you.
-
3
Talk to your friends and family members about the problem you have identified. It may be a recent event such as a job loss, or a co-worker who has been bothering you. Sometimes just talking about the problem with a neutral person will help you get down to the root of your depression and mood swings so that you can move on.
-
4
Try to resolve your conflict. If it is a problem with another person, try to get the courage to discuss what is going on with that individual. Or, if you are financially stressed with a job loss, set small goals toward finding employment.
-
5
Take a small break when going through mood swings. Go for a short walk and clear your head. Get some fresh air or even treat yourself to a snack.
-
6
Speak with your doctor if nothing else has helped. A doctor may be able to prescribe medication to help you along the way until you can get rid of your depression and mood swings.
