Foods That Trigger Depression
Depression affects your day-to-day life. You can become tired, irritable, unproductive and disinterested in the things that normally make you happy. While these feelings can be caused by many things, such as a chemical imbalance, depression also can be triggered by food.-
Types
-
Foods containing high amounts of caffeine and sugar can affect your mood. In some cases, food that is pasteurized or not organically grown can trigger depression as well.
Effects
-
Caffeine can keep you up at night, causing you to lose sleep. Sugar consumes nutrients, a lack of which brings you down. Some people can be extra sensitive to the pesticides used on produce and will become anxious or depressed.
Alcohol and Drugs
-
People drink alcohol for the brief feeling of relaxation it brings; however, when drunk in large quantities, alcohol produces a depressant effect.
Solution
-
The best solution is to cut out the foods and drinks that can negatively affect your mood. Reduce the amount of caffeine and sugar you consume. If pesticides affect you, try eating organically grown produce. Also, if unpasteurized foods such as raw milk are available in your area, try eating those instead.
Further Treatment
-
The cause of depressed feelings may go beyond your diet and it is best to seek professional help if you find these feelings affecting your daily life.
