Cipramil Side Effects

Cipramil is a brand name preparation of the drug citalopram, which is used to treat individuals who suffer from depression. Using Cipramil can lead to a variety of side effects, depending on the particular individual and the size of the dose.

    Identification

    • Cipramil is a prescription drug that's classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It attempts to balance the chemicals in the brain, particularly by affecting the levels of serotonin. Cipramil can help to elevate mood and reduce the symptoms of depression. Other uses for Cipramil should always be determined by your doctor.

    Common Side Effects

    • Using Cipramil can lead to a number of common side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, nausea, general tiredness, a decrease in sexual desire or activity, dry mouth and stuffy nose. Although these side effects commonly occur and are less serious than other side effects, report any side effects to your doctor immediately if they occur regularly or worsen.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Though occurring in rare cases, the following side effects may arise as a result of using Cipramil: missed menstrual period, mood changes, worsening depression, chest pain, vision changes, painful erection, severe skin irritation, confusion, bloody stools, tremors, suicidal thoughts and irritability. Seek immediate medical attention and stop using Cipramil if any of these side effects arise.

    Drug Interactions

    • Cipramil can react in a dangerous manner with the following common medications: Ambien, low-strength aspirin, Lyrica, Neurontin, Nexium, Plavix, Vicodin and Xanax.     Warnings

    • Taking Cipramil increases the risk for extreme suicidal thoughts in children and teenagers. Never consume alcohol while using Cipramil. Use extreme caution when driving as Cipramil can cause severe dizziness and drowsiness. Elderly people and their caretakers should take extra precautions when using this medication.
