Monitor your weight on a regular basis. Talk to your doctor about any weight changes you experience while taking Symbyax. Before starting the drug, she should chart your BMI, lipid levels and glucose levels. Once you start treatment, she will likely monitor your levels on a weekly to monthly basis.

Eliminate foods that could be contributing to your weight gain while on Symbyax. This includes foods high in saturated fat, trans fat, carbohydrates and sugar. Some examples include fried food, fast foods, cakes, candy, soda and cookies.

Eat a well balanced diet that consists mostly of lean proteins, fruits and vegetables. When choosing your breads and pastas, opt for whole grains. For dairy products, choose fat-free or low-fat versions. Eat fats from healthy sources, like olive oil or nuts.

Exercise daily if you want to lose weight on Symbyax. Spend at least 30 minutes daily participating in some sort of aerobic activity. Some activities you can try are running, walking, swimming or cycling.

Ask about an alternative to Symbyax. If you are unable to lose weight and continue to gain while on the drug, ask your doctor about other medications you could use to control your depression.
