Some patients on Remeron develop agranulocytosis, a medical condition that causes the shortage of certain white blood cells. Agranulocytosis increases your risk of developing bacterial, fungal, viral or protozoal infections.

Infrequently, patients develop suicidal thoughts or exhibit self-harmful behavior related to Remeron. Symptoms of suicidal ideation include anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, aggression, impulsiveness, restlessness and mania.
Considerations

Taking an MAO inhibitor drug within 14 days of Remeron poses a risk for serious side effects such as hyperthermia or seizures. Since it has the potential to cause dizziness and drowsiness, you should not operate a motor vehicle or heavy machinery until you know how Remeron affects you.
