Ixel Side Effects

Ixel, also sold as Milnacipran, is a drug used to treat individuals suffering from a disorder known as fibromyalgia. Use of this drug may cause the occurrence of a variety of side effects depending on the patient and the size of the dose.

    • According to Drugs.com, Ixel is a prescription drug that is classified as a "serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI)." It works in the same manner as an antidepressant, but it is not classified as such. Ixel affects certain chemicals in the brain in order to treat the chronic pain disorder fybromyalgia.

    Common Side Effects

    • Use of Ixel may result in the following side effects: constipation, mild insomnia, vomiting, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, hot flush, and decreased sexual desire. Common side effects may become more troublesome if any worsen or persist. Contact your doctor in such an event.

    Severe Side Effects

    • According to Drugs.com, the following side effects may occur as a result of using Ixel: "bizarre behavior; bloody or black tarry stools; confusion; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; dark urine; excessive sweating; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; hallucinations; memory problems; muscle pain or weakness; new or worsening agitation, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, restlessness, or inability to sit still; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; severe or persistent trouble sleeping; stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; trouble urinating; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe mental or mood changes; unusual weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes." Seek immediate medical attention if any of the above side effects occur.

    Use

    • Always take Ixel exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor. Never alter the size of your dose without consulting first with your doctor. Ixel can be taken with or without food, but doing so with food can reduce the side effect of upset stomach. Regularly take your doses and do not suddenly stop taking Ixel in order to avoid certain side effects.

    Warning

    • Do not drink alcohol while using Ixel. Use extra caution when driving or operating heavy machinery as Ixel may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not use Ixel in children under the age of 17. Discuss the danger of using Ixel while pregnant or breast-feeding with your doctor.
