Lexapro Causing Feet & Leg Pain

Lexapro is a prescription medication that aids adults suffering from depression and/or anxiety. These conditions are caused by numerous factors, including chemical imbalances in the brain, and result in physical symptoms, such as tension, sweating and increased pulse. While Lexapro has proven effective, there are side effects to taking it, including feet and leg pain.

  1. Leg Pain

    • Leg pain associated with Lexapro is a quick sensation that shoots through the legs, resulting in extreme discomfort. This pain occurs because the drug causes excessive stimulation of the nerve endings in the legs.

    Restless Legs

    • Another side effect of Lexapro is restless leg syndrome, meaning a person feels the need to move his legs without apparent reason. There is sometimes pain involved with this symptom, though twitching, jerking and cramping are more common. The condition can worsen during inactive times, such as sleep.

    Foot Pain

    • Foot pain caused by Lexapro stems from the same reason as leg pain: excessive stimulation of nerve endings.

    Other Side Effects

    • Some of the other more common side effects of taking Lexapro include sweating, fatigue, difficulty with ejaculation or orgasm, drowsiness and lack of libido. These problems do not occur in everyone using Lexapro, and their severity varies from case to case.

    Consult a Doctor

    • If you experience any of the side effects related to Lexapro use, consult your doctor to be sure they are being caused by the medicine and not something else. Your doctor may change you dosage to help ease the side effects.
