Symptoms of a Depressed Boyfriend

Depression is a mental health affliction that can be detrimental to a person's family, job, social life and romantic relationship. It can be induced by a specific event, such as a job loss, or can seem to come out of nowhere.
  1. Sadness

    • It's normal for people to be sad and irritable occasionally, but if your boyfriend is sad and/or irritable most of the time, this might be a sign that he might bis suffering from depression.

    Sleeping and Eating Patterns

    • Another sign that your boyfriend is depressed is if he is overeating, undereating, not sleeping, or sleeping too much. If he gains or loses a significant amount of weight, this could be a sign.

    Loss of Pleasure

    • If you boyfriend has all of the sudden stopped doing things he normally enjoys, this might be a sign he is depressed. Depression can lead him to stop being interested in activities that used to give him pleasure, such as playing basketball, or hanging out with friends.

    Inappropriate Behavior

    • If your boyfriend is getting into physical fights, using substances, or putting himself in dangerous situations such as drinking and driving, he may be depressed. Men sometimes express depression through rage instead of sadness.

    Suicide

    • Some men who suffer from depression consider suicide. If your boyfriend says things like, "I wonder what it would be like to die," or, "I wish I wouldn't wake up tomorrow," then he is probably depressed.

    Resistance

    • Men are more likely to resist acknowledging they are suffering from depression or need professional help than women.
