Signs of mild depression can be so subtle you might not recognize them. Each person with this affliction reacts differently, so watch carefully if you suspect a friend or loved one is depressed.

    • Mild depression can have an immediate impact on a person's health both physically and mentally. It will also affect those around and living with the depressed person.

    Loss of Interest

    • A person who is mildly depressed may lose interest in the things she used to enjoy and in everyday activities. She'll be able to function on a daily basis and carry on with her life but in low spirits.

    Slow Response

    • A person who is mildly depressed may have a slower reaction in speech, thought and actions. The person who was once sharp may appear to be slow, listless and uninterested.

    Upset Easily

    • Another sign of mild depression is that a person may become upset over simple things. He may not be able to perform tasks as quickly or easily as he once did, and he may feel that he is not coping well.

    Sleep

    • A mildly depressed person may sleep more or less, may have trouble falling asleep or may have fitful sleep.

    Weight Loss

    • A lack of appetite is another symptom of mild depression, and the person may not only lose weight but could risk becoming malnourished.
