Depression Treatment Clinics
-
Initial Exam
-
There is usually an initial psychiatric examination. This gives the psychiatrist an idea of what form of treatment is needed and whether or not it is a severe or mild case of depression.
Types
-
Light therapy treats patients with natural or other light sources and is used primarily on seasonal affective disorder patients. Psychotherapy deals with talking with the patients, in group and one-on-one, as well as with their families.
Drug Treatments Used
-
These clinics usually use a combination of treatments. These treatments include medications such as tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, which will usually be used in addition to psychotherapy.
Time Frame
-
The time spent at a clinic will depend on the severity of the depression and the response to treatment.
Effectiveness
-
The effectiveness of treatment depends on the individual patient's willingness to try and the ability of the caregiver to diagnose the depression and find the right treatments for the particular patient.
