Side Effects of Weaning Off Wellbutrin
Stopping any psychiatric medication can cause unwanted side effects, but if you follow your doctor's orders and wean slowly enough, most (if not all) side effects can be avoided. The more slowly you wean, the less likely you are to suffer harsh effects.-
History
-
Wellbutrin, an antidepressant, is the brand name of bupropion hydrochloride. It is also sometimes prescribed as Zyban for those who are trying to quit smoking.
Time Frame
-
Most doctors usually recommend cutting down at about 100 to 150 mg every few days to a week, if not slower than that.
Effects
-
Some common side effects of Wellbutrin's discontinuation include flu-like sensations, agitation, headache, dizziness, nausea and insomnia.
Considerations
-
Expect Wellbutrin to stay in your system for approximately four to eight more days after weaning.

-
According to Anxiety and Depression Solutions (see Resources), approximately 30 percent of people will experience side effects from Wellbutrin withdrawal.
