Diabetic Foot Pain Cure

Diabetes is a disease that affects the body's ability to use blood sugar. With diabetes, you can develop many other health-related problems, such as nerve damage, which leads to reduced blood flow to your feet, causing pain and possibly infection. If proper care is not given, some foot problems can result in amputation. While this seems severe, it is very common that diabetics who require hospitalization are there for foot problems. If you experience any foot difficulties, you should see your doctor immediately for advice.
  1. Basic Care

    • The best thing to do is clean and care for your feet, as part of your daily routine. Wash your feet with warm water and mild soap; pat them dry thoroughly; and apply lotion to prevent the skin from cracking. Regularly check your feet for cracks, dry skin, increased warmth or tenderness. Trim and clean your toenails.

As for footwear, there are some simple steps to follow: Avoid high heels and pointed toes on dress shoes. Do not wear shoes for an entire day without removing them periodically. Avoid tight socks and choose socks made of cotton or wool. In inclement weather, make sure you have proper footwear to protect your feet from wet and/or cold.

    Home Remedies

    • Massage is a great cure for foot pain related to diabetes. You can buy a home foot massager or you can have a professional massage. With a foot massage, you are promoting and increasing blood circulation to your feet, which relieves tension and stimulates the nerves.

Over-the-counter diabetic foot creams are made specifically to alleviate foot numbness and pain. Apply these creams daily after washing or rinsing your feet. (Always follow the instructions on the package, and don't apply the cream in between your toes.) If used regularly, creams can help with overall foot health.

Finally, a foot soak or bath may help alleviate pain. Chamomile is an herb that promotes healing and alleviates pain. You can make a foot bath with chamomile (3 tbsp.), rosemary (1/2 cup), vinegar (1 cup) and water (1 cup).

    Medical Care

    • Beware infections: one common condition is ulcers, which are sores on your feet that can become infected. If you have an infection, your foot may become hot, red, swollen or painful to the touch. If you suspect an infection, you should immediately see your doctor for an antibiotic.
