1
Learn about the three common symptoms of diabetes type II which are frequent urination, drinking fluids often due to thirst, and excessive hunger/eating. Do you or someone you are concerned about show these three signs?
-
2
Look for pain in the lower extremities. This is also a common finding associated with diabetes, although pain in your lower legs can be from many different causes.
-
3
Consider your overall appearance. Diabetes is more commonly associated with obese, sedentary people. Obesity around the waistline, also know as central obesity, is also of concern.
-
4
Consider the diet that is being consumed. Diets high in sugars (carbs) can promote the development of diabetes. A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and proteins is a great choice!
-
5
Gather information about family history, this another great factor to consider. Do other people in the family have diabetes? Mom, dad, siblings, grandparents?
-
6
Consider asking your doctor to screen you for diabetes if several of the above steps apply. Your doctor will typically request that you have your blood drawn on two separate occasions while fasting.
