High Blood Sugar Remedies?

High blood sugar is the result of a problem with the production of insulin, which is a hormone that the pancreas produces to take sugar from the blood and bring it into the cells for energy. In type 1 diabetics, no insulin is produced at all. In type 2 diabetics, either the cells ignore the insulin's attempts to bring sugar in, or the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to meet the needs of the body. Some high blood sugar remedies include insulin injections, low-carb dieting and drinking herbal teas.
  1. Getting Insulin Injections

    • Most diabetics require insulin injections to help manage their blood sugar. The insulin provided to a diabetic is either created in a laboratory, or harvested from pigs. The dosage of insulin is carefully measured based on your age, size, activity level and diet. The amount of insulin you will take varies depending on changes in any of these factors.

    Eating a Low-Carb Diet

    • Eating carbohydrates causes your blood sugar to go up. If you eat refined carbohydrates, such as white bread or sweets, it will cause your blood sugar to go up higher and faster. Protein and fat, on the other hand, raise blood sugar levels slowly and moderately when you eat them, and can even slow the absorption of carbohydrates when the foods are eaten together. Limiting your consumption of carbohydrates by following a low-carb diet that incorporates these principles can help you maintain moderate blood sugar levels.

    Drinking Herbal Teas

    • Brewing herbal tea by steeping cinnamon sticks in hot water can help you keep your blood glucose levels stable also, due to cinnamon's blood sugar lowering properties. Green tea offers blood sugar regulation benefits as well, and can be bought in pre-measured tea bags for ease of brewing. Sweetening these herbal teas with Stevia Leaf, a natural sweetener that also lowers blood sugar, can help to increase the effect.
