Hypoglycemia Signs & Symptoms

Hypoglycemia is a condition where abnormally low levels of glucose circulate in the body. Extremely low levels of glucose are dangerous and sometimes fatal. Glucose is an essential part of cellular energy, so hypoglycemia shows symptoms that alert patients of the need for sugar intake.
  1. Brain Symptoms

    • The brain uses up to 75 percent of the glucose levels in the body. Glucose is an essential part of good brain function, so hypoglycemia can lead to headaches, confusion and dizziness.

    • Hypoglycemic levels starve eye cells of energy. Double vision or blurred vision occurs from lack of nutrition in the eyes.

    Hunger

    • Hunger is the body's signal for deprivation of nutrition. Patients feel hungry if hypoglycemia is present.

    Heart Conditions

    • The heart is a muscle that needs glucose for energy. Poor energy levels lead to abnormal heart function and palpitations.
