Instructions

    • 1

Prime your Humalog Insulin Pen. This can be done by holding down the Dose Knob of the pen and making sure a stream of insulin comes out of the tip of the needle. Your Humalog Insulin Pen must be primed before each injection and whenever you see an air bubble in the insulin cartridge.

    • 2

Follow sanitary injection techniques. Before administering your insulin dose with the Humalog Insulin Pen, wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to remove common germs from your hands. Use a cotton ball soaked in either rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to cleanse the site of your insulin injection.

    • 3

Turn the Dose Knob to dial your insulin dose. The Humalog Insulin Pen allows you to dial up between 1 and 60 whole units of insulin. Because the Humalog Insulin Pen will not allow you to inject a dose that is more than the remaining insulin in the cartridge, you may occasionally have to complete your insulin injection using a second Humalog Insulin Pen.

    • 4

Insert the needle of the Humalog Insulin Pen into the injection site. Push the Dose Knob straight in to administer your insulin dose.

    • 5

Hold the Dose Knob down for 5 seconds while the Humalog Insulin Pen needle is still in your skin. Removing the Humalog Insulin Pen too soon may result in an incorrect dose of insulin.
