Familiarize yourself with the three main parts of the insulin syringe: the plunger, the barrel and the needle. The barrel contains the units of measurement, the plunger moves in and out of the barrel, and the needle allows the insulin to be injected into the body.

Lower the syringe into the insulin container until the tip of the needle is below the surface.

Pull up on the plunger slowly while looking at the measurements on the side of the barrel.

When the bottom of the plunger reaches the appropriate measurement on the barrel, stop.

Remove the syringe from the insulin and recheck the amount of insulin to ensure accurate dosage.
