How to Use a Freestyle Lite Meter
Whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, most doctors agree that regular blood glucose testing, along with a healthy diet, is an integral part of controlling your diabetes and lessening the risk of common diabetic complications. With this in mind, the Freestyle Lite meter has an added "reminder" feature that helps users remember to test their blood glucose at least four times a day. The Freestyle Lite is small and compact, accurate, fast and easy to use.Things You'll Need
- Freestyle Lite Blood Glucose Meter
- Freestyle Lite Testing Strips
- 1 CR2032 "coin cell" battery
- 1 Lancing device
- 1 Lancet
Instructions

1
Turn the Freestyle Lite meter over and remove the battery cover. Insert one CR2032 "coin cell" battery into the meter and replace the battery cover.
-
2
Take the top off of the lancing device and insert a lancet. Once the lancet is firmly held by the lancing device, twist the protective shield off of the lancet and replace the lancing device top.
-
3
Insert a Freestyle Lite testing strip into the bottom of the Freestyle Lite meter. This should power on your Freestyle Lite meter.
-
4
Use the lancing device to draw a small blood sample to test. One of the most attractive features of the Freestyle Lite meter is its promise of virtually painless testing. Not only does the Freestyle Lite require a smaller blood sample than most other meters, but you can obtain your blood sample from your upper arms, forearms, thighs or calves, as well as traditional sites such as the hands and fingertips.
-
5
Apply your blood sample to the Freestyle Lite testing strip. The meter will beep when enough blood has been applied; you can apply more blood to the strip up to 60 seconds after the initial application.
-
6
Wait five seconds for the results of your blood glucose test. "Normal" blood glucose ranges for diabetics can vary, but are generally thought to be between 90 and 130 before meals, less than 180 two to four hours after meals and between 140 and 160 before bedtime.
