Blood Sugar Ranges for Gestational Diabetes
If you have gestational diabetes, you will be told to check your blood sugar regularly. It is important to write down the amounts in your own notebook to keep track of your blood sugar levels throughout the day.-
Times to Test Blood Sugar
-
You should test your blood sugar when you wake up, right before meals and 1 to 2 hours after a meal.
What is a Blood Glucose Target?
-
A blood glucose target is the level that you want your blood sugar to remain below at a given time of the day. Try to keep your blood sugar level beneath your target.
In the Morning
-
When you test your blood sugar right after you wake up, your blood glucose target is 95. Your blood sugar may be higher in the morning because your body is gearing up to start the day.
Before a Meal
-
Before a meal, your body is considered to be "fasting." Your fasting blood glucose target is 95.
After a Meal
-
One hour after a meal, your blood glucose target is 140. Two hours after a meal, your blood glucose target is 120.
