What is the Average Blood Glucose Level?

Diabetes is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in the United States. For both diabetics and nondiabetics, it is useful to know what is the average blood glucose level to determine whether your blood glucose level is in the healthy range.

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, blood glucose levels should almost always remain between 70 mg/dl and 99 mg/dl while fasting. Pre-diabetics have blood glucose levels that rise from 100 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl while fasting.

    • Diabetes physician and author Dr. Richard Bernstein performed research on normal nondiabetic individuals to determine that the average blood glucose level is 85 mg/dl.
