Recommended Blood Sugar Levels

Maintaining a recommended blood sugar level is crucial to the proper care of diabetes. People without diabetes should be aware in case they are experiencing symptoms of pre-diabetes or are on the brink of developing diabetes. A good blood sugar level is evidence that your body is working properly.
  1. 80 to 120

    • A person without diabetes should have a range of 80 to 120 before eating and then again two hours after a meal.

    90 to 130

    • A diabetic should have a range of 90 to 130 before eating a meal.

    Less than 180

    • A diabetic should see readings of less than 180 1 to 2 hours after eating a meal.

    180 to 220

    • An elevated range for diabetics is 180 to 220. If you see this range and don't know what caused it (lack of medicine or too many carbohydrates) consult your doctor.

    Greater than 220

    • Levels of greater than 220 can be severely dangerous when it is maintained over a long period of time for a diabetic. It can lead to impaired vision, infection, impaired healing and amputations.
