How to Use the OneTouch Ultra Monitor

If you have diabetes you will need to monitor your blood glucose levels on a regular basis. The OneTouch Ultra Monitor makes testing much easier by offering results in five seconds, it only requires a small amount of blood and the option of drawing blood from the forearm which means less pain. For the accurate management of your diabetes it stores up to 150 blood glucose results and allows you to transfer data onto your computer. It's also very compact which means you can take it anywhere.

      Set your OneTouch Ultra Meter. You will need to set your meter the first time you use it and whenever you replace the battery. Press and release the "M" button, to enter the set-up menu, press "the C" button to increase or decrease values and press "M" to move onto the next setting. The setting sequence is as follows: set the time, hours then minutes, followed by the time format, either AM/PM or 24 hours format. Next set the year, month and day, finally set the unit of measure to mg/dL. Press and release the "M" button to save changes and turn the meter off.

      Code your OneTouch Ultra Meter. You will need to code your OneTouch Ultra monitor the first time you use it and every time you open a new vial of OneTouch Ultra test strips, for calibration. Insert a test strip, three dashes will appear, press the "C" button and input the code found on the OneTouch Ultra test strip vial. After inputting the code, the number will flash for three seconds then become solid for three seconds.

      Perform a control solution test. Carry out the test once a week using the OneTouch Ultra Control Solution to ensure that the meter and strips are working together as a system. The test should also be carried out when you open a new vial of test strips, if you drop the meter or if you are continuously having unexpected blood glucose readings.

      Inset a test strip into the meter (see step 5), to mark this as a control test press and hold the "C" button until "ctl" appears on the screen. Shake the vial, discard the first drop and then add a drop to the top edge of the test strip. Compare the result to the range printed on the OneTouch Ultra test strip vial.

      Prepare the OneTouch UltraSoft Adjustable Blood Sampler and wash your hands. To insert a lancet remove the OneTouch UltraSoft cap and push the lancet into the lancet holder, replace the cap. Adjust the puncture depth setting by turning the dial and cock the sampler back until it clicks.
      To reduce the risk of infection and inaccurate results wash your hands thoroughly with warm soapy water and dry.

      Insert OneTouch Ultra test strip into the meter port. The end with the contact bars should be inserted facing up. The meter will switch on and a code number will appear make sure the code number matches the one on the OneTouch Ultra test strips vial. A symbol showing a droplet will be displayed, indicating the meter is now ready for a sample.

      Use OneTouch UltraSoft Adjustable Blood Sampler to obtain a blood sample from your fingertip or forearm. Hold the blood sampler against the side of the finger and press the release button, gently massage your fingertip to encourage a drop of blood to form. If you prefer to use your forearm gently massage the area to increase the blood flow and attach the OneTouch Ultraclear Cap to the blood sampler, position on the forearm, then release the sampler and allow a drop of blood to form.

      Use the memory function and/or download results to your computer. Your OneTouch Ultra meter can store up to 150 blood glucose test results with the date and time, it will also provide you with a fourteen and thirty day average of your blood sugar results. Press the "M" button followed by the "C" button to recall data.

      To download test results from your OneTouch Ultra meter to your compute,r you will need to install the OneTouch Diabetes Management software, connect the OneTouch interface cable to the meter data port, ensuring the meter is switched off, then transfer data. Follow the instructions provided in the OneTouch Diabetes Software User's Manual.
