1
Check the expiration date on the One Touch Ultra Control solution. Do not use the solution after its expiration date. After the solution is opened, write the date on the label of the solution. Discard any remaining solution after three months. Ensure the solution, along with all other equipment stays at room temperature.
-
2
Enter a test strip into the meter with the contact bar-end of the strip into the testing port of the One Touch Ultra facing up. This activates the meter. Ensure the code displayed on the monitor matches the test strip code. If they do not match, immediately press the "C" button on the monitor to change the number on the screen until it matches the test strip.
-
3
Mark the test as a control test. Press the "C" button on the monitor until "CTL" displays on the monitor screen.
-
4
Shake the control solution. Remove the cap and discard the first drop. Gently clean the tip of the dropper.
-
5
Drop the control solution onto the testing strip. Hold the test strip up to the control solution. The solution needs to go into the narrow channel at the top edge of the testing strip. The strip has a display that shows when enough solution has been added.
-
6
Wait the five seconds for the monitor to issue the results. Once the monitor displays a result, compare the result to the range listed on the control solution. If the monitor is within the range of the control solution, the monitor is safe to use.
-
7
Repeat the test if the results do not match. The error could be the monitor, the test strip or the control solution. If repeated tests do not match it is not safe to use the monitor.
