India has been called the diabetes capital of the world as it is home to the largest number of people with diabetes. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), India had 77 million people with diabetes in 2019, which is more than the population of many countries. The IDF estimates that by 2030, India will have 101 million people with diabetes, making it the world's most populous country with diabetes.
