Does ingestion of glucose raise blood sugar faster than sucrose?
The answer is: no
Glucose is a monosaccharide and can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine. On the other hand, sucrose is a disaccharide composed of glucose and fructose. Before sucrose can be absorbed, it needs to be broken down into glucose and fructose by the enzyme sucrase in the small intestine. Because the absorption of sucrose involves an additional step of enzymatic breakdown, it is absorbed more slowly than glucose. As a result, ingestion of sucrose does not raise blood sugar as quickly as ingestion of glucose.
