The incidence of T1D has been increasing over the past few decades, with an average annual increase of about 3-5% worldwide. The incidence of T1D is highest in children and adolescents, with a peak age of onset between 10 and 14 years. T1D is also more common in certain ethnic groups, such as Caucasians and Sardinians.
