Instructions

    • 1

Remove the coding key provided with your test strips. You will receive a new coding key with every vial of test strips for your Aviva. Turn the meter upside down and slide the coding key into the slot near the top of the meter with the code stamp facing away from you.

    • 2

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Dry them with a clean towel or paper towels.

    • 3

Grasp the cap of the lancing device provided with your Aviva. Pull the cap straight up to remove it. Insert a lancet drum into the top of the lancing device, pressing it down until it is secure. Replace the cap by pressing it down until it locks.

    • 4

Check the expiration date on your test strip vial to be sure the strips are within their usable date range. Never use expired test strips. Remove a strip from the vial and insert it into the collection slot at the base of the meter. Verify that the coding number on the display matches the test strip vial.

    • 5

Wipe a finger with an alcohol swap and then pierce it with the lancing device. Draw out a drop of blood and then wipe it away with the alcohol swab. Extract a second drop of blood and apply it to the collection area of the test strip.

    • 6

Wait for the test results to appear within a few seconds. Dispose of lancets and test strips in sealed containers. Check with your hospital or transfer station for regulations on disposal in your state. Some states require that test strips, lancets and syringes be delivered to a hospital for disposal while other states allow you to use specific containers and tape them closed.
