Diabetes Education Grants

According to the American Diabetes Association 23.6 million children and adults had been diagnosed with diabetes in the United States as of October 2010, and there are 1.6 million new diagnoses each year. One of the most effective treatments against diabetes is education and early diagnosis. Several leading diabetes research organizations offer grant-based programs to educate people about diabetes nationwide.
  1. American Nurse Practitioners

    • The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation Scholarship and Grant Program offers annual grants that go toward education in the research and prevention of diabetes. Grants are provided to qualified applicants who work as a nurse practitioner and who are members of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). In order to qualify for grant funding, applicants must be residents of the United States and must have completed educational qualifications and requirements upon application. People who want to apply for grant funding may apply directly through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation.

    Sigma Theta Tau

    • Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing, in cooperation with the International AADE Foundation, presents a diabetes research and educational grant of $6,000, which is dispersed once a year. The grant, which is designed to help offset the cost of diabetes education, care and awareness, is awarded to qualified nurses who work in the field of health care. In order to qualify for grant funding through the Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing, applicants must be a registered nurse and have earned their masters degree by date of application. Preference will be given to members of the Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society of Nursing. Applicants may apply directly through Sigma Theta Tau for approval.

    Juvenile Diabetes Research

    • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International dispenses grants on an annual basis that are used towards research, education and prevention of juvenile diabetes. Grant funding is issued to colleges, universities, medical schools, hospitals and community health organizations who lecture, counsel and provide community education on the topic of juvenile diabetes. In order to qualify, authorized applicants must hold a M.D., D.M.D., D.V.M. or Ph.D. or hold a position of authority at a recognized research facility. Interested applicants may apply directly through the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for consideration.
