What Are Accu-chek Procedures?
The procedures for using Accu-chek blood sugar monitors can vary slightly among different Accu-chek devices. In essence, the procedure is fairly similar for each model and is designed to be easy to operate for people of all ages and abilities. Nonetheless, to receive the best results, refer to the directions enclosed with your own model and follow them carefully.-
Accu-chek Compact Plus Meter
-
The Accu-chek Compact Plus Meter doesn't require you to use individual test strips and can be operated anywhere. To check your blood glucose level, first turn on the meter and advance one strip. When the strip extends, you will see two flashing signals on the display: a test strip and a blood drop. Use the lance to prick one of your fingertips. Be sure to prick at the side of the fingertip, not on its pad. Then gently squeeze the fingertip to produce a single, small drop of blood.
Holding the meter with the test strip downward, touch your pricked finger to the black notched end of the test strip. When enough blood has been applied, you will see that the hourglass icon flashes. If it's necessary to add more blood, you must do so within 25 seconds. The meter will then promptly give a glucose reading. Afterward, simply power off the meter and eject and dispose of the used strip.
Accu-chek Aviva Meter System
-
The Accu-chek Advantage Meter System is designed to improve testing results, with less retesting than other models. To test your blood glucose with the Aviva, place a test strip into the meter and check that the display bears the same code number as the test strip container. You should see two symbols: a test strip and a blood drop. Prick the side of your fingertip with the lance and gently squeeze out a small drop of blood. Then touch the blood droplet to the front edge of the yellow window on the test strip. It's important that you not touch the top of the strip, just the yellow window area. When sufficient blood is applied, you will see the hourglass symbol begin to flash. If it's necessary to apply more blood, you must do so within five seconds.
Accu-chek Advantage Meter System
-
To use the Accu-chek Advantage Meter System, simply insert a test strip into the meter. The strip's silver bars should go toward the meter, and the yellow window should face outward, toward you. Once the strip is inserted, the meter turns on automatically. Note that the code reading on the meter is the same as on the test strip vial. When you see the blood drop symbol, prick the side of a fingertip with the lance and squeeze to produce a blood droplet.
Hold the blood drop against the yellow window until the window completely fills; you will then see an hourglass appear in the display. If you have not completely filled the yellow window, you must add more blood within 15 seconds. Finally, the hourglass disappears, and the meter shows your result.
