Comparing Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems

Blood glucose monitoring systems allow you to easily and comfortably keep track of your blood glucose levels at home. All it takes is a small sample of blood on an inch-long testing strip, which is then inserted into a small reader.

  1. Time Frame

    • How long does it take to get a result? Some systems can give you a result in less than five seconds, while others may take longer.

    Size

    • How big of a blood sample does the product need to give you an accurate result? Some need a sample as small as 0.6 uL, while others may need a larger sample.

    Location

    • Where can you test? Some systems allow you to test on your arm, some on your finger, and some on your palm. Others allow you flexibility by giving you the option of testing in two or all of these places.

    Considerations

    • Consider what is offered with each system. Does it include everything you need to get started, or will you be stuck buying a lot of extra, but necessary, items to use the product? Even if the kit includes everything to get started, one system may include more "extras" that will last longer than another system. Also consider which systems offer a warranty and for how long. Some warranties may be as long as five years.
